Poetry Night: SHARING THE FOREST with Stewart Carswell and Jane Spray + Open Mic, Saturday 2 May, 7.30pm

Sharing The Forest
Join us for another great poetry night at The George, with guest readings by Stewart Carswell and Jane Spray followed by an Open Mic session when audience members are invited to perform their own work.
This is a Pay As You Feel event and your donations are vital to help cover our running costs. Space is limited, so to reserve your seat, please book a free ticket using the form below.
Bar and snacks will be available, and there is a lift to the first-floor gallery if you have difficulty using the stairs.
Meet the poets

Born and raised in the Forest of Dean, Stewart Carswell studied Physics at Southampton University and approaches poetry with the mindset of a scientist. His poems have appeared in numerous collections and he has performed at the Cheltenham and Aldeburgh poetry festivals and around Cambridge and East Anglia. His full-length debut Earthworks was published by Indigo Dreams in 2021.

Jane Spray lives in the Forest of Dean. Her poems have appeared in Poetry News, Mslexia, Pennine Platform, Allegro, and The Haibun Journal. She has read at Cheltenham Poetry Festival, and her River Wye poems were set to music by Fiona Taylor and performed in 2024 and 2025. From 2024 to 2025 Jane was Poet in Residence at Clearwell Caves in the Forest. Her debut collection Cave Whale will be published by Alba Publishing this Spring.
