The George Community Hub in Newnham on Severn
The George is more than just a building, it’s a destination. Our historic premises has been sympathetically restored with huge involvement from our volunteers. We aim to provide an uplifting and inclusive space where people can relax, enjoy the friendly environment and make the most of what we’ve got to offer.
Welcome to The George
Having re-launched The George as a welcoming social hub we aim to continue with our vision to provide a focal point for Gloucestershire and its neighbouring counties, where community, environment, sustainability and fair trade values come together. Access and inclusivity are key to our plans.
The George is for everyone, young, old and all the stages in between – a centre of wellbeing for Newnham and the whole Forest of Dean area, where people can work, celebrate, volunteer, learn skills, socialise, and be supported, enriched and entertained.

Already a controversial figure locally, the Forest-born dramatist Dennis Potter provoked a furore when he based his 1968 play 'A Beast With Two Backs' on a notorious incident in which an angry mob of villagers chased and killed two Russian 'dancing' bears whom they suspected of killing a child and injuring a local woman.
Keith James SOLID AIR
Spiriting us back to the early 1970s, Keith James brilliantly recreates the haunting music of singer-songwriters John Martyn and Nick Drake, with songs such as 'May You Never', 'River Man', 'Solid Air', 'Northern Sky', 'Bless the Weather' and 'Fruit Tree'.
Please note that this event will take place at the Armoury Hall, Dean Rd, Newnham GL14 1AB, NOT in our upstairs Gallery at The George as originally advertised.
