The George Community Hub in Newnham on Severn
We are friendly and welcoming community hub in the Forest of Dean in the thriving Severnside village of Newnham on Severn. Following a fundraising campaign, our historic building was secured by the community in 2021. A team of dedicated volunteers worked together to bring The George back to life for the whole community to enjoy.
Welcome to The George
We want everyone in the community to benefit from our social hub which includes a café, a gallery and a second hand shop. We host talks, music events, art exhibitions, workshops and lots of creative activities for all ages. We’re lucky to have a prime spot on the beautiful heritage high street and we enjoy being part of an emerging creative scene in Newnham.
Cafe
We offer a fantastic range of artisan teas and coffees, cold drinks and alcohol. Our talented volunteer bakers provide a delicious selection of cakes for our cafe. We’re passionate about food and sourcing local produce and it’s important to us to be sustainable and affordable where possible.
Our environment
We are a volunteer-led organisation and our vision is to help others learn new skills, build confidence and collaborate in a supportive environment. We’re a family-friendly space and we also welcome well-behaved four-legged friends.

Christmas with The Riverbank Ensemble, Saturday 6 December, 3.00pm
Back by popular demand, The Riverbank Ensemble perform music from the early Baroque to the present, including works by Elizabeth Jacquet de le Guerre, Camille Saint-Saens, Johan Quantz and Madeleine Dring. This is a programme to suit all tastes – plus a few surprises!

SOUND BATH MEDITATION – Monday 8 December, 7.00pm
Let the gentle vibrations produced by sound instruments soothe away your stresses and strains as you experience the unique relaxing calm of a sound bath meditation.

FOIST VINYL DJ PARTY, Newnham Club, Friday 19 December, 7.00 to 11.00 pm
Put on your dancing shoes and head on down to Newnham Club for the coolest sounds in town. In true Christmas spirit, the promoters FOIST are generously sharing the proceeds with The George. No tickets needed – just turn up on the night and make a donation. Bar, snacks, great music and a fab time guaranteed!
ARTISAN BREADMAKING with Dede Liss – Weekend Courses 17/18 January and 31 January/1 February
Discover the fun and satisfaction of making your own delicious bread at home with expert baker and teacher Dede Liss.
Weekend courses will be held on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 January, and Saturday 31 January and Sunday 1 February. Sessions will run from 1.00pm to 6.00pm (Saturdays) and 9.00am to 1.00pm (Sundays). The cost is £100 per person, including ingredients and a light lunch.

Our unique gallery is an affordable space which is one of a kind in the Forest of Dean. We want to celebrate emerging and established talent so that our local community can benefit from the diverse array of arts and crafts we are showcasing.
