Foist Presents are excited to announce that the next evening of original live music at The Club in Newnham-on-Severn, will feature a live set from critically acclaimed music producers, Jabu. Following positive reviews for their third album, 2024’s A Soft and Gatherable Star, Jabu will be performing dubbed out and alternate versions of their music Upstairs at The Club on Saturday April 26.
The Bristol based trio provide a modern counterpart to the ethereal alternative music created by artists such as Cocteau Twins, AR Kane and This Mortal Coil. These formative influences have been refracted through the sonic lens of dub, soul, ambient folk, electronica and downtempo hip hop, to provide a singular, yet modern musical vision, that combines downbeat dreampop, off-kilter ambient and the warm low-end throb of sound system culture. Jabu will appeal to anyone who is interested in like-minded contemporary acts, such as Dean Blunt, HTRK, Burial and Carla Del Forno, or for those who are interested in something a little different to accompany those twilight hours of soul-searching introspection.
Support will come from Chaka, a music producer with links to Music Works Gloucester, who will provide a live fusion of R&B, soulful vocals and old school hip hop. Respected Newnham based DJ, Ade Simpson will be utilising his impeccable musical taste, years of turntable experience and extensive record collection to curate a perfect complement to the evening’s live performances. Lighting and live-edited visual projections will be provided by Tizz of Forest Operations, to add an extra layer of visual stimulation to enhance the mood of the evening.
Admission on the night will be £8 on the door, or to avoid disappointment, tickets can be purchased in advance from ticketsource.co.uk. Doors will open at 7.30pm.
Foist Presents is a not for profit, voluntary music collective, whose primary aim is to showcase original live music in the Forest of Dean. These evenings occur once a month and provide local musicians the opportunity to share a stage with artists from the UK and further afield in front of a friendly and appreciative audience. These nights are an inclusive, safe space for live music enthusiasts, and everyone is welcome to attend. Once all expenses have been covered, all the money raised from the ticket sales will go towards paying the performers.
Following Jabu, Foist Presents will return to The Club in Newnham on Saturday May 31, with a headlining set from local indie rock legends Vendetta Deluxe, who feature members from previous bands such as Judy Speedway and Idiot Box. Support will come from up-and-coming Cinderford based band Firesprung, and DJ Ade Simpson. Expect an energetic mixture of pop-punk, alternative rock and grunge sounds from two of the finest local guitar-based bands.
On Saturday June 28, Northampton based band The Bighead will be performing a live set of ska, roots and rockers reggae. Admission will be on a pay what you can basis. This will be the last Foist Presents event of the current season, before taking a short break over the summer to concentrate on planning their next series of live events. Watch this space for news of forthcoming Foist Presents gigs that will take place in the latter half of 2025 through until early 2026.
