In May 1938, works by many of Europe’s most notable artists including Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí went on display in a remarkable exhibition at Gloucester Guildhall. In this illustrated talk, author, curator and art historian Lee Beard discusses the impact of the show on contemporary British artists and explores how for a brief moment an art exhibition in Gloucester connected the city to some of the most notable artistic and political events of the time, not least the rise of fascism across Europe.

Art Exhibition: Luba Arnold Larnie

Upstairs at The George The George, Newnham on Severn, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom

Luba Arnold Larnie is a contemporary landscape artist based in Gloucester.
She writes: 'I’ve always been fascinated by nature and the ever-changing shapes and colours formed by the combination of the land, sky and sea, particularly those produced from the morning and evening light. My paintings are not always portraits of particular places, more an attempt to distill a memory of a space with its light and atmosphere therefore leaving them open to other interpretations and perceptions. Colour and texture are at the heart of my paintings.'
