In May 1938, works by many of Europe’s most notable artists including Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí went on display in a remarkable exhibition at Gloucester Guildhall. In this illustrated talk, author, curator and art historian Lee Beard discusses the impact of the show on contemporary British artists and explores how for a brief moment an art exhibition in Gloucester connected the city to some of the most notable artistic and political events of the time, not least the rise of fascism across Europe.
